Create an AI Avatar from a Description

Make your own avatar for talking videos. Pick a place, a framing and a style, describe the person and their clothes, and choose from the portraits you get back. Make places from a description or a photo of a real room.

You don't need a photo to make a talking video. Generate a person from a few choices and a short description, pick the portrait you like, and use it in Avatars like any other photo. Everything you make is saved to your avatars, so you can use the same person again in new videos.

How It Works

Open Avatars and click Generate. If you already have videos, click New project first. If your saved avatars are shown, click New avatar first.

1. Pick a Place

Place is where the person is. Click Change to open Choose a place and pick a room or setting:

  • Phone selfie, Studio, Podcast, Beauty vlog, Kitchen, Living room, Bedroom, Car, Bathroom, Closet, Home gym, Dining table, Home office, Office, Cafe, Street, Park and Newsroom

Your own places show up in the same list. See Places below.

2. Pick a Framing

Framing is how much of the person is in the shot. Click Change to open Choose a framing:

  • Head and shoulders, Chest up, Seated at a desk, Standing, waist up, Arms crossed, On a sofa and Standing, to the thighs

Each place offers the framings that suit it. A car only has Head and shoulders, for example, and On a sofa is in the living room.

3. Describe the Person

Set who they are and how the picture looks:

  • Gender - Man or Woman
  • Age - 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or 60+
  • Ethnicity - Black, East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, White or Mixed
  • Hair - Auto, Black, Dark brown, Brown, Light brown, Blonde, Red or Grey
  • Expression - Neutral or Smile
  • Style - Realistic, Phone video, Cinematic, 3D animated or Vintage
  • Clothing - Type what they wear
  • Describe them - Add anything else about how they look

If more than one image model is available, pick one under Model. The models you see depend on your computer on the desktop app and on your plan on VCP Cloud. On the desktop app, the first time you use a model it downloads, and the size is shown before you start.

4. Check the Prompt

Your choices are written into the Prompt on the right. Click Edit to change the wording yourself and Done when you're finished. If you change an option after editing, you're asked whether to replace your edited prompt. Reset prompt brings back the prompt built from your choices.

5. Generate and Pick

Click Generate. The portraits appear one by one as they finish, and you can Cancel at any time. Click a portrait to select it, or open it with View full size. Portraits without a clear face can't be picked.

Click Generate again for a new set, or Continue to use the one you picked. It's saved to your avatars and takes you straight to the Speech step.

What You Can Do

Reuse Your Avatars

Every avatar you make, pick from the public avatars, or upload is kept in your avatars. When you start a new video, they're shown first, with filters for Gender, Age, Ethnicity and Look. Pick one and click Continue, or click New avatar to upload, generate or browse the public avatars. Use Delete to remove one you no longer want.

Make Variations

Under any avatar that isn't an uploaded photo, click Variations to put the same person somewhere else. Change the Place, the Framing or the Clothing, then click Generate. The portrait that looks most like the original is marked Best match. Pick one and click Continue to save it and use it.

Places

Make your own places and put any of your avatars in them. In Choose a place, click New place, then either:

  • Describe it - Type what the room looks like and click Generate. Pick the room you like and click Continue.
  • Upload a photo - Use a photo of a real room, such as your office or studio.

New places are saved and show up in Choose a place next to the built-in ones. Under a place you described, click Another one like this to get more rooms in the same style. Use Delete on a place to remove it.

Places work for new avatars and for Variations, so you can put a saved avatar into a room you made.

Public Avatars

Click Public avatars to pick a ready-made person. Filter by Gender, Age and Ethnicity, and open a person to see their looks. Each look plays as a short clip, and the sound button lets you hear them. Pick a look and click Continue.
