AI Video Editor for Talking-Head Videos
Upload a talking-head video, podcast or lesson and AI Cut removes long pauses, filler words and bad takes. Review every cut, add styled subtitles, change words with Overdub, and export a video, an XML for Premiere or Resolve, or an SRT file.
AI Cut turns a raw recording into a clean edit. Upload a talking-head video, podcast or lesson, and AI Cut removes long pauses, filler words like "um" and "uh", and the takes you got wrong. Every cut shows on the timeline and in the transcript, so you can check each one, put it back, or cut more by hand.
AI Cut is on the desktop app and on VCP Cloud. Open it from AI Cut in the Video section of the sidebar.
Bad takes and script checks need an LLM on desktop
Cut silences and Remove filler words work on their own. Cut bad takes and Cut anything not in the script use an LLM. VCP Cloud has this built in. On the desktop app, connect your own LLM in Settings under AI Models, in the AI Cut section. See Connect an LLM.
How It Works
1. Add Your Video
Click New project and drop a video in, or click to choose a file. AI Cut takes MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM files.
2. Choose What to Cut
Under What to cut, tick the cuts you want:
- Cut silences - Removes long pauses between sentences.
- Cut bad takes - When you repeat a line, keeps the last try and cuts the earlier ones.
- Remove filler words - Removes words like um, uh and you know.
3. Add Your Script (Optional)
If you read from a script, paste it into Add voiceover script (optional). AI Cut uses it to keep the take closest to what you meant to say. Once a script is in, you can also tick Cut anything not in the script to remove asides and lines the script doesn't have.
4. Generate
Click Generate AI Cut. AI Cut transcribes the video, listens to the audio, finds filler words and bad takes, and opens the editor when it's done.
Open Advanced settings before you generate to pick the Transcription model or set the Spoken language. It is set to Auto-detect by default.
5. Review and Export
Play the edit, fix anything you don't like, add subtitles, then click Export.
What You Can Do
Review Every Cut
The editor shows the video, a timeline under it, and the transcript beside it. Under the timeline you see the original length, the edited length and how much was removed. Each kind of cut has its own colour, with a count for each: Silences, Filler words, Retakes, Not in script and Your cuts.
On the timeline:
- Click a cut to restore it. Click it again to cut it back out.
- Drag a cut's edges to make it longer or shorter.
- Highlight part of the timeline to cut it yourself.
- Drag the start or end of the video in to trim the beginning or the end.
In the transcript, cut words are crossed out. Click a crossed-out word to restore it. Select a run of words to Cut or Restore them all at once.
If anything couldn't be checked, a warning icon appears next to the counts. Click it to see what was skipped, such as when the script doesn't match most of the video.
Keep the Best Take
When you say a line more than once, AI Cut keeps the last good try and cuts the earlier ones. In the transcript, each cut take shows why it went, such as Stopped before the end, Stumbled on the words or Said better later. If you prefer an earlier try, click Use this take on it.
Set the Pace
Pick Natural or Tight at the top of the editor to set how much pause is left between sentences. Click Advanced for finer control:
- Turn each kind of cut on or off.
- Pause left after a cut - Set the gap left behind, from 0.10 to 1.50 seconds.
- Keep thinking pauses longer - Leaves a little more room where you stop to think.
- Keep breaths before sentences - Keeps the breath before you start talking.
- Play removed parts only - Plays just the parts that were cut, so you can check nothing good went.
- Reset edits - Puts every cut back to what AI Cut found.
Run again opens the setup screen so you can change what to cut or the script. Sections you cut or restored and takes you picked are kept. If you change the transcription model or the language, the video is transcribed again and your edits are reset.
Edit a Word
Click any word in the transcript to jump to it and open its options. Animation, Style and Highlight this word show when subtitles are on.
- Display as - Fix a word that was misheard. The new spelling shows in the subtitles.
- Animation - Give the word its own animation, such as Pop, Grow, Wave or Glitch.
- Style - Change its colour, size and rotation, or make it bold, italic or underlined.
- Highlight this word - Make it stand out in the subtitles.
- Delete word - Cut it from the video.
Press Ctrl+F to search the transcript, and use the copy button to copy the whole transcript.
Subtitles
Click Subtitles on the video to turn subtitles on and style them. You get the same styles as Dubbing and Viral Clips, previewed on the video as you edit and burned into the export. To restyle a single caption, use the style button next to its line in the transcript. See the Subtitle Generator docs for all the styling options.
Hook
Click Hook on the video to add a line of text over the opening, set its look and how long it stays on screen. It works the same as the hook in Viral Clips.
Overdub
Select words in the transcript, click Overdub and type new ones. They are spoken in the speaker's own voice, with lip sync if you want it. See Overdub.
Speaker Labels
When two or more people talk, each part of the transcript is labelled Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on.
Undo, Redo and Shortcuts
Use the undo and redo buttons at the top of the editor, or the keyboard:
- Space - Play or pause
- Left and Right arrows - Step one frame
- Shift + arrow - Step one second
- X - Cut or restore at the playhead
- Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y - Undo and redo
- Ctrl+F - Search the transcript
Zoom the timeline with the mouse wheel, a pinch, or the zoom buttons. Cuts snap to word edges, and the timeline shows a filmstrip of the video and the audio waveform.
Export
Click Export and pick one of:
- Video (MP4) - Your edit with subtitles and hook burned in.
- Premiere / Resolve (XML) - A timeline with every cut, to finish the edit in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
- Subtitles (SRT) - The subtitles on their own, timed to the edit.
Video (MP4) and Premiere / Resolve (XML) open the export window, where you choose:
- Shape - Original, Vertical 9:16 for TikTok, Shorts and Reels, Square 1:1 for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, Portrait 4:5 for the Instagram and Facebook feed, or Widescreen 16:9 for YouTube and LinkedIn.
- Framing - When you change the shape, pick Follow face to keep the speaker in frame, Center, or Fit with blur to show the whole picture over a blurred background.
- Quality - Original, High, Medium or Small.
- Resolution - Original, 1080p or 720p.
Click Export video, then Download when your video is ready. Click Export XML to save the timeline instead. With Follow face, the video is exported first so the XML can follow the speaker. The export keeps going if you leave the screen, and the result is there when you come back.
