Change Words in a Video Without Re-Recording
Select words in the AI Cut transcript, type new ones, and they are spoken in the speaker's own voice, with lip sync to match the mouth.
Overdub changes what was said in your video without recording it again. Select words in the AI Cut transcript, type the new ones, and AI Cut speaks them in the speaker's own voice. Turn on lip sync and the mouth moves to match.
Use it to fix a wrong number, a name you got wrong, or a line you wish you had said differently.
How It Works
1. Select the Words
In the AI Cut transcript, select the words you want to replace. A small bar appears over the selection. Click Overdub.
Overdub shows when every selected word is still in the edit. If part of the selection is cut, restore it first.
2. Type the New Words
The Overdub box opens with the words you selected. Type what you want said instead, up to 300 characters.
If two or more people talk in the video, pick whose voice says it under Voice. It starts on the speaker who said the original words.
3. Choose Lip Sync
With Lip sync on, the speaker's mouth moves to the new words. Turn it off to change only the audio.
4. Generate
Click Generate, or press Enter. The progress shows in the box and under the timeline as Changing words, with a Cancel button.
When it's done, the new words play in the preview and go into your export.
Change or Remove an Overdub
Overdubbed words show in the transcript with a microphone icon. Click them to open the box again:
- Generate - Make it again after you change the words, the voice or lip sync.
- Play - Hear the new words on their own.
- Remove overdub - Go back to what was said in the video.
An amber dot next to an overdub means it isn't generated yet. If you later cut the overdubbed words, they are crossed out in the transcript and aren't spoken.
When Lip Sync Is Skipped
Sometimes the voice is changed but the mouth isn't. The box tells you why:
- No face found, voice only - AI Cut couldn't find the speaker's face at that point in the video.
- Lip sync needs a GPU, voice only - The computer running the overdub has no graphics card that can do lip sync.
Lip sync on VCP Cloud
On VCP Cloud, lip sync is available on paid plans. Free plans can still overdub the voice.
If It Fails
- The new words are too long for this sentence. Try a shorter version. - The new words take too long to say in the space the old ones had. Shorten them.
- Couldn't find enough of this speaker's voice in the video - The speaker doesn't talk long enough in the video for AI Cut to copy their voice.
